Driven by energy transition, electric vehicles, and data centers, global copper demand is rapidly increasing. Meanwhile, supply-side constraints, including mine strikes and insufficient investment, have kept copper prices high for an extended period. Furthermore, rising copper foil processing fees (CCF) and tight supply of electronic-grade glass cloth have placed comprehensive cost pressures on CCL (copper foil substrate) manufacturers, becoming the main reason for this round of price increases.

The market expects that even if copper prices correct, they are unlikely to fall below US$10,000 per ton, forcing downstream material manufacturers to adjust their prices accordingly.

Currently, Taiwanese manufacturers affected include Nan Ya Plastics, Taiyo Plastics, and Unimicron Technology.

Nan Ya Plastics was the first to notify its customers that due to the significant increase in copper prices, rising copper foil processing fees, and tight supply of electronic-grade glass cloth, it will raise prices across its entire CCL product line and PP products by 8%, emphasizing that this move is to maintain stable supply and normal production capacity.

Taiyo Plastics stated that raw material prices are clearly rising, and the company has begun price negotiations with customers. The increase will vary depending on the product and application market, and the company emphasized that this adjustment is a necessary measure.

Unimicron also initiated price adjustments, but without a uniform increase; each business unit adjusted prices based on its product mix and customer demand. The company pointed out that electronic-grade glass cloth prices had already been raised twice in August and October, and with strong demand from AI and cloud computing, the supply of high-end materials remains tight.

With the overall increase in copper prices, processing fees, and raw material costs such as electronic-grade glass cloth, CCL manufacturing costs have risen significantly, becoming the main reason for the synchronized price adjustments by various manufacturers. Analysts pointed out that with the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure driving strong demand for high-end HDI, low-Dk/Df materials, and server motherboards, high-end CCL products are expected to successfully pass on the cost increases to end customers.
